Values in Action

December and January are “short” months to enjoy Values in Action accolades, so the Mission and Values Integration Committee has decided to give one award for the combined months. The first dual-month winners are themselves a duo: Dad, Bill Norton and his son, Spencer! Bill is an instructor in the Department of Radiologic Technology, and Spencer is a senior Business Administration major, as well as Student Body President. As an instructor, Bill is highly student-centered, even lending his time and muscle to help freshman move in to the residence halls back in August. Spencer, while looking forward to graduation, is also focused on using his SGA office to address the needs of his peers. In this regard, both men demonstrate a reverence for the unique dignity of each person – especially students. This reverence was recently made evident when they teamed up to assist a student who wanted to explore career options in research – an area in which Spencer has been working during his internship at the Mirro Center. Alerted to the student’s interest by another faculty member, Bill was able to put Spencer in touch with the student. Spencer then became the connecting point between the inquisitive student and the place where inquiries could be made. Thank you, Bill and Spencer, for going the extra mile in showing your reverence for others, and for all the ways you live out our Franciscan Values.
